More About Training
At For Your K9, we believe that understanding your dog is the first step toward building a better relationship. Our non-sport training classes support dogs and their people in developing essential life skills. Whether you’re starting fresh with a new puppy or helping an adult dog build confidence, you’ll find a welcoming and supportive community here.
Foundation Classes
These classes are the building blocks of training. You’ll learn how to communicate clearly with your dog, encourage good habits, and strengthen your everyday bond through positive reinforcement.

Core Foundation Classes
Puppy 1
For puppies 8 weeks to 5 months
This class focuses on early-life socialization, basic commands, and common challenges like mouthing, crate training, and potty habits. Safe puppy play is included.
Note: First class is for humans only.
Basic Obedience
For dogs 5 months and older
Covers foundational behaviors like sit, down, recall, leash walking, and polite greetings. We also address issues like nipping, barking, and jumping using positive, practical methods.
Note: First class is for humans only.
Advanced Foundation Classes
Intermediate Obedience
Prerequisite: Basic Obedience
Refines your dog’s basic skills using more distractions, distance, and duration. Ideal for dogs who are ready for the next challenge in reliability and focus.
Canine Life And Social Skills (C.L.A.S.S.) / Canine Good Citizen
Prerequisite: Basic Obedience
Prepares teams for real-life success and optional evaluations like the AKC Canine Good Citizen. Builds on foundational skills through games, problem-solving, and increasing difficulty.
Behavior Speciality
Behavior is more than obedience. Our specialty classes are designed for dogs who struggle with challenges like reactivity, fear, overexcitement, or anxiety. We take a holistic approach that considers your dog’s physical health, emotional state, environment, and learning history.
Whether your dog needs help feeling more secure around triggers, is navigating the chaos of adolescence, or just needs more focus in distracting environments, we offer expert guidance in a supportive setting.
Some of our most popular behavior-focused classes include:
-
Reactive Dog – Build confidence, reduce reactivity, and learn practical handling strategies.
-
From Scared to Prepared – Support for fearful or anxious dogs through slow, structured exposure.
-
Awfully Adolescents – For dogs 6–18 months navigating big feelings and impulse control.
-
Focused Fido – Help your dog improve attention, impulse regulation, and handler engagement.
-
…and more – We regularly offer rotating specialty classes to meet a variety of behavior needs.
These classes are ideal for dogs who aren’t quite ready for a busy group setting or who need more targeted support before moving into our foundation or sport classes.
