More About Training

At For Your K9, we believe that understanding your dog is the first step toward building a better relationship. Our non-sport training classes support dogs and their people in developing essential life skills. Whether you’re starting fresh with a new puppy or helping an adult dog build confidence, you’ll find a welcoming and supportive community here.

Behavior Speciality

Behavior is more than obedience. Our specialty classes are designed for dogs who struggle with challenges like reactivity, fear, overexcitement, or anxiety. We take a holistic approach that considers your dog’s physical health, emotional state, environment, and learning history.

Whether your dog needs help feeling more secure around triggers, is navigating the chaos of adolescence, or just needs more focus in distracting environments, we offer expert guidance in a supportive setting.

Some of our most popular behavior-focused classes include:

  • Reactive Dog – Build confidence, reduce reactivity, and learn practical handling strategies.

  • From Scared to Prepared – Support for fearful or anxious dogs through slow, structured exposure.

  • Awfully Adolescents – For dogs 6–18 months navigating big feelings and impulse control.

  • Focused Fido – Help your dog improve attention, impulse regulation, and handler engagement.

  • …and more – We regularly offer rotating specialty classes to meet a variety of behavior needs.

These classes are ideal for dogs who aren’t quite ready for a busy group setting or who need more targeted support before moving into our foundation or sport classes.

Life Skills & Manners

Looking to take your training beyond the basics? Our Life Skills and Manners classes focus on real-world obedience, impulse control, and handler-dog teamwork. We offer a mix of six-week series and drop-in sessions, including:

  • C.L.A.S.S. (Canine Life and Social Skills)
